Abstract of Lecture:
The paper examines the normative foundations of identity in modernity. It argues that identity in modernity focusing on recognition and authenticity has abandoned the conception of dignity and its relevance to ethical life in a society. More specifically, by focusing on the shift from ethical to metaphysical in its formulation, it will address contemporary philosophical debates regarding the common good.
