Conference Themes

The intent of this conference is to bring together scholars with common interest in exploring themes at the interface of metaphysics and the philosophy of mind.

More specifically, our goal is to focus on questions that integrate (a) concerns about mind and consciousness with (b) relevant regards for the metaphysics of powers and the exertion of agency.

Finally, within the metaphysics of mind, we especially encourage inquires engaging with non-standard perspectives, namely, with views and theories that diverge from the mainstream debate between (orthodox) physicalism and dualism.

(To illustrate, examples of such non-standard perspectives may include hylomorphism; idealism; neutral monism; panpsychism; Russellian monism; quantum-based approaches to consciousness, and the like).

Papers could be of either critical or constructive emphasis (or both!).

Contributions of historical bent are welcome, provided that they also engage with some contemporary issues relevant to the conference’s thematic focus.

How to apply for participation

A limited number of places (3-4) is preserved for open-call papers. We invite interested scholars to submit an abstract of up to 500 words by October 22, 2024 . Please submit your paper via email:

roselli.uniroma3@gmail.com

Every speaker will be given a 1 hour time slot (ideally, 40 minutes for the presentation, 20 minutes for the Q&A). We aim to have 5 or 6 speakers per day.
