ABSTRACT

This paper develops a theory of the “plebeian experience” as a form of democratic politics enacted by the Many outside conventional institutions. Tracing its origins to Rome’s first plebeian secession in 494 BCE, my work identifies the plebeian experience as a discontinuous but recurring phenomenon in western history.

摘要

本文提出一种关于“平民经验”（plebeian experience）的理论，将其理解为“多数者”在常规制度之外所展开的一种民主政治形式。本文将其源头追溯至公元前494年罗马第一次平民撤离，并把平民经验界定为西方历史中一种非连续却反复出现的政治现象。
