ABSTRACT
Monarchy seems like an archaic relic from the past. Why should states be ruled by hereditary monarchs simply because they happen to be born into families with certain blood lines? Yet it turns out that monarchies – political systems headed by single rulers selected on the basis of family background – are among the world’s most successful countries in the modern world. This paper explains why monarchy, especially of the symbolic form, may be an appropriate form of government.

君主制似乎是一种来自过去的古老遗物。为什么要由世袭君主来统治国家？仅仅因为他们出身于某些特定的家族吗？可事实表明，君主制国家——在政治制度中，基于家族背景选出单一统治者，并由其领导——也在现代最成功国家的行列之中。本文解释了为什么君主制，特别是象征性君主制，可能是一种合适的政体形式。
