Frontier Issues and Future Directions in Philosophy of Science
The 22nd National Biennial Conference on Philosophy of Science, co-organized by the Philosophy of Science Committee of the Chinese Society for Dialectics of Nature and the Department of Philosophy (Zhuhai) of Sun Yat-sen University, will take place on November 1-2, 2025 (Saturday and Sunday) in Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province.
Conference Theme:
Frontier Issues and Future Directions in Philosophy of Science (including but not limited to the following topics):
- General Philosophy of Science (laws of nature, dispositions, confirmation, translation, inference to the best explanation, realism vs. anti-realism, historicism, constructive empiricism, social epistemology, etc.)
- Formal Philosophy of Science (formal epistemology, structural theories of causation, evolutionary explanations, etc.)
- History of Philosophy of Science (Chinese philosophers of science, Vienna Circle, Neo-Kantianism and logical positivism, Kuhnian studies, etc.)
- Philosophy of Intelligence (philosophical foundations of artificial intelligence, brain-like intelligence, philosophy of large language models, data-driven scientific investigation, etc.)
- Philosophy of Physical Sciences (relativity, quantum mechanics, thermodynamics, chemistry, and philosophical issues in other physical sciences)
- Philosophy of Life Sciences (evolutionary biology, nature-nurture debates, evolutionary game theory, ecology, etc.)
- Philosophy of Cognitive Science (cognitive psychology, neuroscience, virtual reality, experimental philosophy, consciousness studies, etc.)
- Philosophy of Social Sciences (reasons for social action, collective intentionality, decision theory, cultural evolution, philosophy of economics, sociology, anthropology, and political science)
- Philosophy of Scientific Practice (philosophy of scientific experiments, science and culture studies, social constructivism, post-SSK studies, etc.)
- Philosophy of Science in Continental and Phenomenological Traditions (reflections on science from phenomenology, hermeneutics, structuralism, and post-structuralism)
- Ethics of Science and Technology (ethical issues in biotechnology, artificial intelligence, gene editing, climate engineering, and other advanced technologies)
- English-Language Symposium (working language is English; academic presentations and discussions will be conducted in English)

Registration Deadline: September 10, 2025
Conference Fee: RMB 600 (halved for students and retired teachers). Travel and accommodation expenses are self-funded, but meals and lodging will be arranged by the conference at your own expense.
Paper Submission: Please submit an abstract during registration. Those applying to give a plenary presentation should submit a full paper. Official participation notifications will be sent after review by the Academic Committee.
